RED BIRD MISSION

Red Bird Mission and Clinic have been providing ministries in the Appalachian Mountains of southeastern Kentucky since 1921. Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing and rugged terrain cause obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of that area. Red Bird Mission strives to meet the needs of their neighbors through ministry in five areas: Education, Health & Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity and Community Housing Improvement. Find out more about Red Bird Mission by visiting their website.

Mission Trip: St. Mark's will send a mission team to work at Red Bird July 22-28, 2018 to provide home repair for low-income residents. The experience covers 5 days and 6 nights. Workers stay in climate-controlled cabins set up as bunk houses. Meals are shared in the dining hall. You will be provided an opportunity to grow in Christian love and to be enriched spiritually. If you are interested, please contact Liz Rix. Read about the 2016 trip here.

MISSION GUATEMALA

Mission Guatemala is a United Methodist related organization that works in the highlands of Guatemala in the community of San Andrés Semetabaj. They help meet basic needs and improve the quality of life of impoverished Guatemalan peoples through health, education and nutrition initiatives and through missionary service. Click here for more information.

OPERATION CLASSROOM

Operation classroom is moving into a new area of emphasis, a partnership with the Sierra Leone Conference of the United Methodist Church. The mission of The African Enterprise Academies is to advance the Kingdom of God by implementing a viable entrepreneurial secondary school training program that is capable of being replicated without continued infusions of western capital. The academy will train persons for employment with practical skills and Christian ethics, providing hope for a better future. More information may be found on the UMC websiteDonations to Operation Classroom may be given online.

PACK AWAY HUNGER

Pack Away Hunger is a non-profit organization that packages highly nutritious meals that improve key health factors of the chronically hungry. St. Mark's holds a food pack each year where we pack over 40,000 meals for Mission Guatemala. It is a great mission opportunity for all ages! Our 2017 food pack was lots of fun for a great cause! For more information click here.

Society of St. Andrew

The Society of St. Andrew salvages tractor-trailer loads of potatoes and other produce that are rejected by commercial markets or potato chip factories due to imperfections in size, shape, sugar content, or surface blemishes. Usually, these rejected loads end up at local landfills. Through the Potato & Produce Project, the Society of St. Andrew is able to redirect this fresh, nutritious produce to food banks, soup kitchens, food pantries and other hunger agencies for distribution to the poor. Click here to find out more!
