Learn more about UMW
Have you ever wondered about the United Methodist Women? You may be surprised to discover the many opportunities for friendship, fellowship and spiritual growth through St. Mark’s UMW.
Why should I consider joining UMW?
UMW is a fun and easy way to develop friendships and plug into life at St. Mark’s. Through UMW, we hope you will grow spiritually and focus on looking beyond St. Mark’s to the community around us.
When does UMW meet?
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month September through April. The morning group commences at 9:00 a.m., while the evening group meets at 7:00 p.m. We begin each meeting with announcements and devotions. Afterwards, we break into small interest groups.
What sort of mission work do you do?
Much of our mission work involves raising funds through activities such as our Arts & Crafts Marketplace on November 5, 2016, bake sale, Trinkets and Treasures garage sale and a variety of fall fundraisers. Our mission emphasis includes local and international charities, especially those that assist families and children.
Will I be expected to volunteer my time for these events?
No one is obligated to do anything. We recognize that your time is valuable and may already be committed. However, we sincerely hope UMW will allow you to discover your own unique talents and reveal ways you can use them to do God’s will.
Are there any other programs?
The Reading Program is a nation-wide program that seeks to broaden members’ exposure to a variety of topics. During the year, the group reads books from five categories: Education;for Mission, Leadership Development, Social Action, Nurturing for Community and Spiritual Growth. The group meets five times a year.
Can I participate in events if I don’t attend the meetings?
Absolutely. If your schedule does not permit you to attend monthly meetings, you are always welcome to attend any individual function or fund raiser.
